The brief was straightforward. Two young children, and a pool that had to be usable by all four of the family at the same time without one parent permanently standing in the water.
Roughly a third of the surface area is given over to a sun shelf sitting in a few inches of water, wide enough for loungers to stand in it. The entry steps are unusually wide and run the length of one side rather than tucking into a corner, which makes getting in and out easy for adults and unremarkable for children.
The finish is a dark interior with scattered accent tile, so the shallow water reads blue rather than washed out. A stone seat wall carries a scupper at the far end, and the deck was finished in an aggregate that stays cool underfoot.
